What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?

I being a serving Army Officer of IT stream in Pakistan which is a troop contributing country I found this as an opportunity to work with diverse teams. Contributing to the efforts of UN and my desire in bringing a positive change to the world was a motivating factor for joining the United Nations. Working with United Nations can provide a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth, including exposure to different cultures and ways of working. This was particularly appealing for me with a background in technology who is interested in expanding their skill and knowledge. It was also a great opportunity to fulfill my desire to serve internationally and working with different cultures.

What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?

My contribution at United Nation was to participate in CIMIC activities, interact with local population specially women and children gathering information for reporting purposes and to send reports to Sector Center. My technical contribution was to compile and edit pictures and videos of all activities.

What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?

Believe in yourself. Its important to trust in your skills and knowledge and to remember that you belong in the field as much as anyone else. Stay curious and keep learning. If you continue to seek you will find a solution.
