What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?

I have always gotten a deep sense of satisfaction from efficient and clean code, and seamless systems. My career at the United Nations started in a more administrative capacity where I leveraged technology in my sphere of influence, eventually creating a tool to alleviate some pain from a cumbersome task used by the Service of 28 people. When an opportunity came to transition into a more technical role.

What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?

It would be the Peace and Security Data Hub, where datasets from the pillar are made available to the public through partnerships with various offices interdepartmentally. It's wonderful when we hear Member States use the portal and whenever the hub gets utilized for research studies. I handle back-end work for the hub; a major part was to upgrade the connections to ensure uptime even with staff turnover and develop automatic updates as well. Another favorite is currently ongoing for the quick impact projects, where we are developing a custom solution to ensure data quality, usability, and automation that would facilitate better reporting.

What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?

You are welcome here! This goes for anyone, please do participate in ongoing projects and initiatives. There is much to be accomplished, and with the help of technology, we can achieve our goals more effectively.
