Carmen Forrest Corbin
Head of Counter Cybercrime Programming (Africa), Global Programme on Cybercrime, UN Office on Drugs and Crime

What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?

After working as a prosecutor in the USA for over 11 years, I wanted to come to the UN to share my knowledge and experience with others around the world to help them build safer communities.

What has been your favorite IT project at the United Nations and what was your technical contribution?

My favorite IT project has been working to raise awareness and build capacity in African countries to counter the sexual abuse and exploitation of children online. I have contributed to this project by educating and training criminal justice actors about the digital evidence needed and available to prosecute these crimes and rescue the child victims.

What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?

Pursuing a career in technology can mean many different things, not just computer programming. Follow your passion, ask questions, be curious, and make your voice heard. Your idea may be the breakthrough that your community needs.
