What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?
I studied Bsc. Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering and after graduation joined military and was posted to Kenya Army Corps of Signal. I deployed with Kenya Signal Company which is part of the Field Technology Section as the Telecommunications Officer. By joining the United Nations mission, I am able to exploit my potential and apply my skills in the technology sector and be able grow professionally as we foster peace, sustainable development and human rights.
What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?
My favorite project is the implementation of Intergrated Security System including installation of CCTV cameras. I am the team leader for its implementation in Beni-Mavivi. My key roles being to oversee the implementation phase and co-ordinate with other stakeholders in the project. I ensure the installation is done according to the required standard, raise concerns and ensure they're addressed and also give feedback on the progress.
What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?
Desire to always learn, improve your skills and be confident in them, find a mentor to help you progress in your knowledge, build your network and exploit all technological opportunities to expand your career.
