What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?
I am serving as an army officer in the IT field in Pakistan, which is a troop contributing country. I found this as an opportunity to work with diverse teams. My desire to bring a positive change to the world was a motivating factor for joining the United Nations. Working with the UN has provided me with a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth, including exposure to different cultures and ways of working. This was particularly appealing for me with a background in technology and as someone who is interested in expanding their skill and knowledge. It was also a great opportunity to fulfill my desire to serve internationally and work with different cultures.
What has been your favorite IT project at the United Nations and what was your technical contribution?
My contribution at United Nation was to participate in CIMIC activities, interact with local population specifically women and children, gather information for reporting purposes and to send reports to Sector Center. My technical contribution was to compile and edit pictures and videos of all activities.
What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?
Believe in yourself. It's important to trust your skills and knowledge and to remember that you belong in the field as much as anyone else. Stay curious and keep learning. If you continue to seek you will find a solution.
