Unite Connections guidelines

Online collaboration platforms such as Unite Connections are fundamentally changing the way we work and engage with each other and with partners. The Office of Information and Communications Technology in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance has developed Unite Connections to facilitate collaboration across geographic boundaries, between Departments and Offices, and with Agencies, Funds & Programmes and partner organizations. In Unite Connections, the UN's greatest assets - the knowledge and expertise of its personnel - is shared with colleagues and the communities in which it operates. UN personnel have a vested interest in being aware of and participating in this global sphere of information, interaction, and exchange of ideas.

Guidelines

  1. UN personnel and external partners are accountable for the content they publish online, whether in a blog, social computing site, or any other form of user-generated media as per Sections 3.2 and 5 of ST/SGB/2004/15 "Use of information and communication technology resources and data".
  2. Maintain your profile (e.g. name, contact information, department and role at UN) up-to-date in the system.
  3. Ensure your profile and related content is consistent with how you wish to present yourself to colleagues, partners, and clients.
  4. When publishing content online related to the organization in your personal capacity ensure that it clearly indicates it is personal and not official in nature.
  5. Respect copyright, fair use, and financial disclosure laws.
  6. Understand the sensitivity of confidential or "inside information" and do not discuss it with external parties.
  7. Respect your audience. Do not use ethnic slurs, discriminatory remarks, personal insults, obscenity, or engage in any similar conduct that would not be appropriate or acceptable in the workplace. Show proper consideration for the privacy of others. Be the first to respond to your own mistakes.
  8. Spirited and passionate discussions and debates are encouraged, but show respect for others and their opinions. Do not publish defamatory and/or knowingly false material about any person, colleague, or other users or entities
  9. Make an effort to add value and provide meaningful information and perspective.

Disclaimers

  1. Unite Connections is provided by the Organization primarily for the performance of official duties, however limited personal use is acceptable as set forth in Section 4 of ST/SGB/2004/15 "Limited personal use".
  2. Unite Connections is subject to monitoring and investigation as set forth in Section 7 of ST/SGB/2004/15 "Monitoring and investigations". By using this platform, you expressly consent to these monitoring activities.
  3. ST/SGB/2007/6 "Information sensitivity, classification and handling" applies to all information and content posted in Unite Connections. Classifed information and content as defined in ST/SGB/2007/6 "Information sensitivity, classification and handling" should not be posted in Connections.
  4. Unauthorized attempts to defeat or circumvent security features, to use Unite Connections for other than its intended purpose, to deny service to authorized users or provide access to unauthorized users, to alter, damage, or destroy information, or to interfere in anyway with the operation of the system is prohibited as set forth in Section 5 of ST/SGB/2004/15 "Prohibited activities".
