What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?
Several factors influenced my journey to the UN. My love for computers and technology was a constant source of inspiration, driving me to pursue a career where I could harness these tools to create positive change. I believed that the United Nations was the perfect place to apply my skills, offering an opportunity to contribute to global peace and progress. I also had faith in my natural ability to embrace modernity and adapt to the ever-evolving technological landscape.
This passion and belief have guided my career path, allowing me to combine my technical skills with a strong sense of purpose, working towards a better future for all.
What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?
One of my most memorable projects at the United Nations was creating a data management system for UNMAS. It was exciting because it improved how we made decisions by visualizing data in real time. I designed the system and integrated tools like Power BI and ArcGIS Dashboards, which made the data come to life. Training peacekeepers to use a web map to identify hazards was fulfilling because it gave them practical skills to stay safe. Working with such a diverse team was inspiring and showed me the impact of collaboration. This project really highlighted how technology can drive positive change in our work.
What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?
Aim to develop multiple skills and gain a solid understanding of each component in your field. Approach technology with the mindset of practicing yoga—stay focused and balanced. Be creative and unique with your ideas, especially in this age of AI, where creativity is more important than ever.
