Staff Officer
Force Headquarters, United Nations Mission in South Sudan
What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?
Currently not working with technology in the UN, I work as a military staff officer in Training, exercise and evaluation.
I hold a degree in Leadership, Air Power and Technology from the Royal Norwegian Air Force Academy.
My education consisted of basic knowledge of electrical systems, programming, safety and documentation of maintenance. The basis for future aeronautical education.
Further on, the aeronautical education taught me avionics, electrical systems, structural analysis, powerplant and flight mechanics and gave me a deep understanding of aviation systems. I do not have experience in ‘tech’ per se, but I'm experienced in aviation technology.
What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?
At the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), we have courses focused on cybersecurity. I think it's excellent that we prioritize the safety of using technology and address potential threats.
What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?
I am consistently driven by my curiosity and I often go out of my comfort zone to embrace challenges and grow. This is the advice I would give to other females who pursue a career within a male-dominated field. Showing leadership in traditionally male-dominated fields has been my strength. I lead with empathy, and I emphasize the importance of building strong relationships and a unified group dynamic. Furthermore, I want to continue to pave the way for other women who want to work within a traditionally male-dominated field.
