Tiara Nissa
Chief of Personnel and Finance, Formed Police Unit
Why did you decide on a career at the UN?
I decided to join UN because I wanted to contribute to making a positive impact on the world by working on global issues like peace, development, and human rights, and felt passionate about the organization's mission to create a better future for everyone, offering a unique opportunity to work on a large scale with diverse cultures and perspectives across the globe; essentially, I saw it as a way to use my skills to serve a greater purpose beyond just a typical job.
What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?
I have a project with my unit to fix the trouble system of the website for submitting the performance assessment and evaluation report (PAER) of all unit FPU/PSU in the mission area and after the last six months, the website could not be accessed by some users; now it is fixed.
What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?
Ask for what you want, and believe you are worth it. Build a network of people who think differently from you and collaborate with them. While it can be scary to feel unprepared, trust yourself to do the work, learn on the job and figure it out. It may be different from what you pictured, but you’ll learn from it.
