Why did you decide on a career at the UN?

I chose to pursue a career with the United Nations because I want to apply my skills in project coordination, communications, information management, and administration in a way that creates real value for communities. The UN’s work in promoting sustainable development, inclusion, and human dignity reflects the principles that are important to me professionally and personally.

I am especially interested in roles where I can combine operational support, organized systems, and effective communication to help programmes run efficiently and achieve measurable results. Responsibilities such as supporting coordination processes, strengthening MIS systems, maintaining accurate records, documenting community success stories, and working closely with stakeholders strongly match my experience and interests.

I also value the UN’s commitment to integrity, impartiality, diversity, and service. Working in a professional and multicultural environment where the focus is on public impact is highly motivating for me. I see a UN career as an opportunity to continue learning, contribute my experience in a meaningful way, and support positive change, particularly in communities that need it most.

What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?

My favorite technology initiative is the one that strengthens Management Information Systems (MIS) to improve project delivery and decision-making at the provincial level. I value projects where technology is used not just for reporting, but to create accurate, real-time information that helps teams plan better, monitor progress, and respond quickly to community needs.

What makes this kind of initiative meaningful to me is that it connects field operations, data management, and programme results. When information is organized and accessible through dashboards, digital records, and tracking systems, it increases efficiency, transparency, and accountability. It also helps make timely decisions based on evidence.

My contribution to such an initiative would be to support the design and day-to-day management of the MIS, ensure data accuracy and timely updates, coordinate with field teams for quality data collection, and prepare reports. I also contribute by integrating communication elements such as beneficiary stories, photographs, and visual presentations so that programme achievements are clearly documented and shared with stakeholders. For me, the most rewarding technology in this project that make operations smoother on one drive.

What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?

My advice to women interested in pursuing a career in technology would be to believe in their abilities, stay curious, and continue building their skills with confidence. Technology is a field driven by knowledge, problem-solving, and innovation, and women have an important role to play in shaping its future.

I would encourage women to start with strong foundations in digital tools, data management, communication systems, and emerging technologies, while continuously learning through courses, certifications, and practical experience. Consistency and willingness to learn are often more important than having a perfect starting point.

It is also important to seek mentorship, build professional networks, and connect with other women in technology who can share guidance and opportunities. Support systems can make a significant difference in career growth and confidence.

Women should not hesitate to take on leadership roles, speak up with ideas, and apply for opportunities even when they do not meet every requirement. Growth often comes from stepping outside one’s comfort zone.
