What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?

I chose a career at the UN because of its unique platform to address global challenges through multilateralism and its commitment to sustainable development, peace, and security. Working at the UN allows me to contribute to impactful projects on a global scale, especially in areas such as conflict prevention, development, and humanitarian assistance. Given my academic background in defense, development, and diplomacy, along with experience in international organizations, I felt that the UN would be the best fit for applying my skills to support coordinated international efforts and drive positive change.

What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?

My favorite technology project at the UN has been participating in interviews and video production for the Cybersecurity team, where I am currently interning at the UN Office of Information and Communications Technology. This initiative focuses on strengthening the cybersecurity culture across the Secretariat by educating employees about potential threats and best practices for protecting sensitive information. I conducted interviews and researched the team's work, producing a promotional video to educate UN personnel and the general public on their mandate and goals. This project stood out to me because it combined my interest in technology with the need to address growing challenges in digital security. It was rewarding to see that the increased awareness positively impacted employee behavior, making the organization more resilient to cyber threats.

What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?

My advice is to embrace your curiosity and continuously seek opportunities to learn new skills. Don't be afraid to take on challenging projects—confidence grows with experience. Build a strong network by connecting with mentors and peers in tech. Most importantly, trust in your abilities and know that your perspective is invaluable in shaping innovative solutions.
