UNCAP highlighted the continued expansion of its technology training portfolio.

The United Nations C4ISR Academy for Peace Operations (UNCAP) of the Triangular Partnership Program (TPP) of the Department of Operational Support (DOS), recently delivered a high-level strategic briefing to the Military and Police Advisory Community (MPAC) at United Nations Headquarters. The session underscored the growing role UNCAP is taking in enhancing the operational readiness and technological capabilities of uniformed peacekeepers.

Organized by the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) in coordination with the Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom and hosted by the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the event brought together over 100 delegates representing 51 Member States and international organizations.

The session was opened by the Permanent Representative of the UAE, H.E. Mohamed Abushahab, who reaffirmed the Mission’s commitment to fostering innovation and advancing the responsible use of technology in peacekeeping. The Permanent Representative emphasized that digital transformation and modern technologies are essential enablers for safer, more effective, and more accountable peace operations. During the briefing, UNCAP presented an overview of its ongoing initiatives, key achievements and strategic priorities, with a focus on equipping uniformed personnel from United Nations Peace Operations and regional Peace Support Operations soon with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively deploy, manage, and maintain critical technologies in the field.

UNCAP highlighted the continued expansion of its technology training portfolio, which combines in-person instruction at the Regional Service Centre in Entebbe (RSCE) with mobile field missions and digital learning platforms offering both self-paced and virtual instructor-led courses. This blended approach ensures broader accessibility, sustained engagement and consistent training standards across diverse mission environments.

Looking ahead, UNCAP outlined its plans to deliver specialized technology training modules in emerging operational domains, including situational awareness, digital systems integration, and advanced communications technologies. The Academy also aims to train 10,000 personnel over the next three years, further enhancing the technological competencies of Troop- and Police-Contributing Countries (T/PCCs). These efforts align closely with the priorities of the Secretary-General’s Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) and A4P+, as well as United Nations Security Council Resolution 2719 (S/RES/2719), which reinforces strengthened collaboration between the UN and the African Union in peace operations.

The Community commended the key contributions UNCAP has made to improve interoperability, command and control structures and the integration of technology, enhancing the safety, agility and effectiveness of peacekeepers in increasingly complex environments. UNCAP’s engagement with MPAC reaffirmed its strategic role in shaping a modern, technology-enabled peacekeeping framework, rooted in innovation, partnership and capacity-building. The briefing served as both a progress update and a testament to the Academy’s commitment to building the next generation of technologically empowered peacekeepers.
