The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT), the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (UN-ODET) and the UN International Children’s Emergency Fund’s (UNICEF) Frontier Data Network are proud to announce that the winning solution developed by team T4SG for the “Ahead of the Storm” Hackathon at UN Tech Over 2025 has been deployed in the open source geospatial platform GeoSight.
The winning solution, developed by Darren Ath-Ly, Prisha Sheth and Sophia Liu, will help humanitarian and development partners better protect children before climate-driven emergencies strike by enhancing access to critical risk analysis data and technologies.
Developed with CSS, HTML, JavaScript, React and Django, the project showcases how open source technologies can be rapidly prototyped and deployed to meet real-world needs.
Although further enhancements are planned, a mobile-ready version is now live in GeoSight, representing a major step toward inclusive, field-ready geospatial tools.
The new features introduce a tab-based mobile interface that makes dashboards easier to navigate on small screens. This approach prevents overlapping elements, ensures maps remain visible and delivers an uncluttered experience tailored for mobile devices, enhancing actionability and decision support.
By making GeoSight more user-friendly and functional on mobile devices, the winning project ensures broader access to life-saving data for decision-makers, humanitarian workers, and vulnerable communities worldwide.
GeoSight is a geospatial intelligence platform widely adopted by UNICEF and its partners in both development and humanitarian settings. It enables the visualization of spatial patterns and supports data-driven decision-making through geospatial insights.
While highly effective on desktop, the mobile version lacked essential functionality, limiting usability in the field, where mobile access is often the only option.
The Frontier Data Network (FDN) at UNICEF is dedicated to accelerating adoption of innovative data technologies and practices to enhance delivery of impactful, reproducible, data-driven solutions for the world’s most vulnerable children. The FDN is championed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation’s (AECID).
About UN Tech Over
UN Tech Over (16–17 June 2025) opened during UN Open Source Week at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Hosted by the Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies and the Office of Information and Communications Technology, the event gathered technologists, UN agencies, and open source contributors to co-create solutions for global challenges, with a focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
