Why did you decide on a career at the UN?

I chose a career at the UN because I have always been driven by the idea that public service can create meaningful, systemic change—especially for people in the most vulnerable contexts. Working with UNCTAD allows me to combine my commitment to international cooperation with my passion for fair, inclusive and sustainable social and economic development. The UNCTAD mandate and its ability to convene governments, experts, and stakeholders provides a unique platform to address cross-border challenges. Being part of this system gives me the opportunity to contribute to evidence-based policymaking and capacity-building initiatives that directly support countries in their development efforts.

What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?

One of my favourite initiatives has been UNCTAD’s work on artificial intelligence and consumer protection. AI is reshaping digital markets, and helping countries understand its risks and opportunities is essential for ensuring fair, transparent, and trustworthy digital transformation across the UN system.

I contributed by refining policy analysis for the Artificial Intelligence and Consumer Protection report, co-drafting the AI checklist used by consumer protection agencies to deploy AI. This work helps governments navigate technological change and strengthen consumer protection in the digital age.

What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?

Embrace technology with confidence, but never lose sight of the human dimension behind every innovation. As you develop new skills, remember that technology should empower people, protect their rights, and build trust, especially in digital markets. Women bring valuable perspectives to ensuring that digital transformation remains safe, fair, and human-centric. Your voice is essential in shaping technologies that truly serve the public interest.
