What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?

In 1993, I was first introduced to the United Nations when I was an IT consultant in the private sector. My company was responsible for pioneering an innovative project for the Organization that shifted administrative processes from paper to digital. I have since worked for more than five UN agencies as an IT project manager.

What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?

Some of my favorite IT projects involve ERP implementations which can help us streamline our administrative processes and improve efficiency. In particular, I have a special focus on understanding UN procedures and requirements in countries in very difficult locations; ensuring that the technology solutions are feasible; and implementing them.

What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?

As a lucky mother, my twins taught me how to be patient, practical, understand what needs are being expressed from the bottom up, juggle multiple tasks at once without complaining or feeling overwhelmed; adjust responses quickly based on new information; and use newer tools effectively. These skills are essential for women working in UN challenging IT environment.
