Administrative Assistant
Kagas Regional Office, Field Coordination, Office of the Chief of Staff, United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic
What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?
I started working as a UN Volunteer with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) as a Communication Assistant in 2004.
I set up the UNMIL CITS Communication Centre (currently FTS), I was coming from the World Food Programme (WFP) as an Information Communication Assistant. The peacekeeping mission was new to me, but with my experience at WFP, I managed to set up the UNMIL Communication Centre. Then I moved to Administration Support with the United Nations - African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in 2008 as an Administrative Assistant to the Director of Mission Support (DMS). Now I am currently serving with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA); as an Administrative Assistant to the HoO in the Kagas Regional Office. Working closely with the HoO and all substantive sections within the Kagas Regional Office is immensely a huge responsibility. With the advanced technology in the United Nations, the use of Outlook and the UMOJA platform for my day-to-day multitasking is outstanding—many thanks to the support of the Field Technology Section.
Providing support to the Head of Kagas Regional Office and all substantive sections, including other field offices such as Ouham Fafa and Kemo prefectures contributed to the success criteria of my day-to-day routine tasks. This is because of the digital transformation which I am so grateful for.
What has been your favourite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?
My favourite project is working on the UMOJA platform for Business Intelligence, which I was using in the DMS Office in UNAMID to upload reports.
What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?
Being a woman is not only a gender but also an identity. Women should believe in themselves and take risks to expand their knowledge of information and communications technology.
