Carly Gilbert-Patrick
Team Leader - Active Mobility, Digitalization & Integration
Sustainable Mobility Unit Industry & Economy Division, United Nations Environment Programme
What brought you to a career in technology at the United Nations?
I wanted to put my project management expertise to good use, I wanted to manage projects that have an impact on people.
What has been your favorite technology project or initiative at the United Nations and why? What was your contribution?
I am currently overseeing the launch of a 20 million Euro transport digitalization project called ACCESS- Accelerating Access to Low Carbon Urban Mobility Solutions through Digitalization (funded by the German Government). This project will support six countries in Latin America over the next five years to use digitalization to fast-track emission reductions from the transport sector. Digitalization affects every aspect of our lives, no more so than the transport sector. This project is the first of its kind initiative to pro-actively harness the power of tech to enhance transport options available in cities and put in place the policy and regulatory frameworks to make it possible.
What advice would you give women interested in pursuing a field in technology?
As Ruth Bader Ginsburg said, "Women belong in all places where decisions are being made." Build your expertise and be confident and tireless in your pursuits.
