To that end, the Department of Management’s Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) has launched over 55 easy-to-use management dashboards on the Unite Analytics platform. The dashboards let senior managers view and compare data, and generate insight into such areas as finance, human resources, and support services—information that is critical for budgeting, forecasting, and benchmarking key performance indicators (KPIs).

NEW YORK, 15 March (Office of Information and Communications Technology) — The United Nations announced today that Abdulqadir Rashik has won the Unite Ideas #LinksSDGs Data Visualization Challenge. Mr. Rashik, a software engineer, entrepreneur and founder of India-based Miavy Systems, was awarded the Challenge's top prize for his submission "Links to Sustainable Cities", an interactive visualization that identifies and maps the links between Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and the other 16 Goals.

10 March 2016, New York, USA - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) represented by its Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director, Mr. Nikhil Seth, and the United Nations Secretariat Office of Information and Communications Technology (UN OICT) represented by the Assistant Secretary-General and Chief Information Technology Officer, Ms. Atefeh Riazi, signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in New York.

13 February 2015

The General Assembly (A/RES/69/262) endorsed the United Nations Revised Information and Communications Technology Strategy (A/69/517). Its approval establishes the unity of purpose for all ICT programmes, and represents an opportunity to establish the global ICT structures that will best support the core work of the UN. The strategy will harmonize ICT programmes in the UN and ensure ICT act together with clear central control balanced with day-to-day operational freedom.

The growing field of data analytics, from simple information gathering to highly sophisticated sensor technology, promises to deliver solutions that will facilitate the work of the United Nations. Coupled with the increasing availability of free and open source software and Open Data, we are presented with a wonderful opportunity to proactively engage with external partners. In Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) we are continually looking at ways in which data analytics can help our Organization better serve its beneficiaries.
