ESCAP trained by UN InfoSec on staying cyber safe

The recent global – and, in some cases, catastrophic - ransomware attacks (Petya and WannaCry) have reinforced just how vulnerable organizations like the UN are to cyber-attacks. As part of the Department of Management's efforts to increase preparedness on information security, Mr. Thomas Braun, Chief of the Global Security & Architecture Section in OICT, visited the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in late June. ECA successfully migrates to Unite Mail (Outlook)

The Department of Management’s Office of Information and Communications Technology is rolling out Unite Mail (Outlook and Office 365) to the entire global Secretariat. Unite Mail is a key part of the information and communication technology (ICT) strategy, intended to bring the Organization into alignment with today’s best practices. The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has completed migration to Unite Mail. ECA’s nearly 1,300 users have been successfully moved to the cloud-based platform. Learn more>>

“The Blockchain” and why it matters to the UN & Member States

The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is working closely with talented innovators from the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society, to test new ideas and develop innovative solutions that facilitate the substantive work of Member States. One such emerging technology is blockchain. Unite Ideas #SDGInsights

Unite Ideas is the United Nations crowdsourcing platform where academia, civil society, and the Organization work together to help respond to some of the world's most complex problems by taking on data science and visualization challenges. The current challenge--#SDGInsights--launched in collaboration with the UN DESA Development Policy & Analysis Division (DPAD) and Demographic & Health Surveys (DHS), asks participants to use DHS data and other georeferenced datasets to help visualize and explore the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
