Airport Information:

On arrival at Istanbul airport, you will see clearly marked WHS signs leading you to passport lanes 28 and 29. The number of lanes will be expanded as more participants arrive. Please have your visa letter, LP and letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at hand. You may be asked to move to a visa desk next to passport control where the paperwork will be checked. This should take no more then 2-3 minutes per person.

From 19 May a WHS information booth will be inside, close to passport control. As you come out of the baggage hall, look for someone carrying a WHS sign as well as another information desk to the right. You will be directed to a shuttle which will be available to transport you to your hotels. For those whose hotel cost is covered by the Turkish government, you will find the allocated hotels detailed in the attached deployment list.

Please note that you will need to pick up your badges when you arrive in Istanbul.

Badges can be picked up at the accreditation centre located at the Hilton Convention Center, adjacent to the venue (Harbiye, Cumhuriyet Cd. 50 D, 34367 Şişli/İstanbul, Turkey) starting 18 May:

22-23 May 2016 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
24 May 2016 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon

You will need to pick up the badges in order to access the venue. Please pick up your badges at the booth labelled "Security". If your picture was not accepted by the system, you will need to retake it in the accreditation centre (the process will take approximately 1 minute, without a queue).

The exhibition will be opening on 22 May 2016 (Sunday) at 13:00.

The Grand Bargain is now open to anyone with an All Access badge (ICC).

Welcome to the first day of the World Humanitarian Summit! We hope your day is filled with inspiring discussions, positive connections and wonderful experiences.

In the evening, we would like to welcome everyone to enjoy the classical sounds of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra will perform at the LKCC auditorium.  Doors open at 6:00 pm. Please note that ticketed participants are to enter first and then available space will be open to everyone on a first-come-first-served basis.

The opening remarks will be made by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and he will be introduced by the Under-Secretary-General of OCHA, Stephen O’Brien.

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra will perform two pieces during the programme:


  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) Symphony No. 40 in G Minor (KV 550);
  • Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) Symphony No. 5 in C Minor (Op. 67).


The Orchestra was recently designated as the United Nations Global Advocate for Cultural Understanding. It was started in 1999 by Maestro Daniel Barenboim, a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and the late Edward Said.

In February 2016 Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated, “The work of the Orchestra is testimony to the power of music to break down barriers and to build bridges between communities. I am delighted that the Orchestra has committed to help us in our work towards creating a more peaceful, inclusive and united world.”

Please arrive early to ensure you have obtain a seat. We anticipate a full house.


Concert is cancelled - we are very disappointed but are incorporating many of the acts into the closing ceremony and are inviting all to attend.

You are cordially invited the closing plenary and the closing ceremony in the ICC Auditorium from 6.30 to 7.30 pm.

The event is open to everyone and seats are on a first come first served basis.

LKCC side event badge holders and media are also invited.
